VIRTUAL BUILDING BLOCKS
The FFORMS collection is made up of six core typologies; staircase, structure, window, gateway, cube and sphere. Together, these virtual building blocks can be used to assemble unreal architecture in metaverse applications. Each FFORM NFT contains a 2D image and a 3D model.
Each FFORM NFT contains a CC0 .glb 3D file that was scaled, textured, and optimized for Decentraland - a virtual world powered by Ethereum. Each file has been optimized specifically for DCL in 2021, the original 3D models of this series included invisible collider objects that help the FFORM perform correctly when interacting with other DCL objects and with avatars.
OPEN-SOURCE
CC0 is an essential ingredient to the FFORMS project. The series was created in 2021, a time when there were extremely limited virtual world platforms. The topic of interoperability was debated across select metaverse focus groups and builder chats, but it was an issue that was rarely in focus for the platforms themselves. As an architect, I felt it was critically important that my 3D work be published with an open license so that collectors (and the broader public) could adapt the original .glb file to the standards of different virtual worlds in the future. This open-source approach allows my work to survive and expand into virtual worlds beyond my own individual skillset or understanding. As the metaverse begins to emerge, I believe it's important for 3D architectural objects to be agile so as not to become stuck within a single world that may or may not survive. FFORMS are my first works dedicated to cultivating a new kind of web-based architecture that could be modular, adaptable, and open to everyone.
